IF any of you thought my post on the 1975 Lomond Mountaineering Club was lacking a bit in sartorial elegance have a look at this photo. It’s me on a winter 1976 Cairngorm to Ben Nevis walk which I did with Peter Lumley and Matt McKinley, formerly of the Backpackers Club.
For gear connoisseurs I’m wearing a woollen balaclava, a PointFive duvet and tortuous hairy tweed breeches. The pack is a very early Karrimor frame pack. Probably carrying about 40 lbs.. The boots are Scarpa Bronzos – best boots ever made.
All I can say is thank God gear has improved. The beard alone weighs about 3 lbs…
